Sayulita, Nayarit
Location
Sayulita is just a quick bus ride or drive away from Puerto Vallarta but miles away from the usual resort atmosphere found in most well known Pacific Coast destinations.  What most people love about Sayulita is its friendly small town feel, great surf break and  restaurants. Once a very small fishing village, Sayulita has grown into a charming town with all one needs to have a relaxing vacation and cultural experience.  Part of the fun of going to Sayulita is discovering for yourself the magic of this diverse community.

Beaches
The main beach in front of the center of town provides an excellent opportunity for swimming, body surfing,  boogie boarding and surfing for both the beginners and the more experienced.  One can rent a boogie board, surf board, snorkel and mask or a beach chair and umbrella for lounging the day away.

Just a short walk to the south of town is Playa Los Muertos.  A favorite locals beach spot, the surf here is calmer and makes for great bobbing and swimming in the milder ocean waters.  There are no amenities here, so if you come for a length of time it is nice to bring a shade umbrella, perhaps a snack, and a bottle of water.

Restaurants
There are so many great places to eat in Sayulita it is truly amazing and hard to choose favorites but here are some suggestions:
Rollies Restaurant: Excellent American style breakfasts for when you are craving a taste of home, also becoming known for their excellent Paella at night.

Sayulita Fish Taco: Voted best fish tacos on the Pacific coast, stop in and say Hi to Albert and his wife Dora and their friendly staff. Here you can taste some of the best and freshest that Sayulita has to offer.

El Tigre: Located on the second floor next to the pool hall overlooking the plaza.  Great food and a great place to watch all the action in the plaza while having dinner.

Choco Banana: The hotspot for conversation and coffee every morning.

Calypso: Above the main street on the plaza.  A very romantic spot under a huge palapa roof for a special dinner beautifully prepared by the owner and former Los Angeles chef.

The above are just a very few of the many wonderful places to experience food in Sayulita.  Not to be overlooked are the many family run, small restaurants setup in front of homes or on the street corner.  We have eaten at almost all of them and have always had great experiences.  All are meticulous about the water they use for food preparation.  They are very inexpensive and delicious.
It is very easy to eat a dinner in Sayulita for $5.00 a person or $50.00 a person-whichever suits you.  Either way, you will not be disappointed.
